Kellie Carr is no stranger to the equine industry. Growing up as the oldest of three sisters on her family’s Sandhills Nebraska ranch, Kellie was riding horses before she could walk, and began participating in rodeos before Kindergarten. While in high school, Kellie was an active participant in the Nebraska High School Rodeo Association, where she competed in team roping, breakaway roping, barrel racing and the queen’s contest. She went on to represent many rodeos throughout the state of Nebraska as their rodeo queen, and was a three-time runner-up to the title of Miss Rodeo Nebraska, earning the Tammy Halligan Memorial Horsemanship award in 2003. The titles gave Kellie her first taste of public relations work, and she decided to pursue that as a full-time career. She graduated from Oklahoma State University in 2005 with a degree in Journalism and public relations. After college, Kellie went to work for the National High School Rodeo Association, where she helped organize the very first Wrangler Junior High Finals Rodeo in Gallup, N.M. From there, she moved to Texas and began Western Vision Productions in late 2005, and then relocated to Southern California in mid-2009. In April of 2006, Kellie went to work as an Associate Editor at Quarter Horse News. It was there that she was introduced to the sport of reining. After a company layoff in July of 2007, she went into business for herself and never looked back. She is a frequent contributor to the NRHA’s Reiner magazine, the AQHA Journal and other industry publications. In 2008, she placed third for her personality profile of Tim McQuay at the American Horse Publication Awards, and in 2009, captured an AHP Honorable Mention for her profile on Einsteins Revolution. Kellie is also an avid photographer, capturing everything from reining horses and rodeo heros to seniors and babies. Her photography work has been published in several industry publications, including Western Horseman, Quarter Horse News, The NRHA Reiner and the AQHA Journal. She has also done commercial work for such companies as Wrangler, Cowboy Militia, Purina, Classic Equine and Rambo Quarter Horse/Horseware Ireland. Kellie continues to write and do photography for several industry publications in addition to running PlusOne Productions. |
